President Donald Trump on Monday recommended that South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster appoint Darline Graham Nordone, the sister of the late Sen. Lindsey Graham, as the state’s interim U.S. senator.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump described the potential appointment as “a fabulous tribute to Lindsey, who loved her dearly.” McMaster’s office confirmed the governor would make a formal announcement at 4 p.m. Monday.
The recommendation carries deep personal significance. As a young man, Lindsey Graham lost both parents in rapid succession. Rather than allow his teenage sister to face the loss alone, he legally adopted her and raised her as his own. That act of responsibility shaped the senator’s character and remained a defining element of his life, according to those close to the family.
