President Donald Trump declared the U.S.-brokered ceasefire with Iran effectively “over” on Wednesday, calling negotiations a “waste of time” and accusing Tehran of bad faith. His remarks came during the NATO summit in Turkey, hours after U.S. forces struck more than 80 Iranian targets in retaliation for Iranian attacks on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran’s response – Iran’s military and foreign ministry condemned the U.S. actions as “blatant aggression” and a violation of the interim Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). Officials vowed a “crushing response” to any further strikes and emphasized Iran’s resolve to protect its interests and sovereignty in the Strait of Hormuz.
Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and other spokespeople rejected Trump’s derogatory language toward Iranian leaders, stating that Iran responds to such rhetoric “with action: fearlessly and with great valor.”
